I am a retired senior and a female. My occupation was in Computer Operations at a government agency. I started my computer career in 1966 long before the first home computer was ever marketed to the home consumer. IBM large framed computers were the ones that I operated.

The software was know as 'DOS' which was a program of which you had to type textual commands in order to operate the computer. The government was paying as much as $10,000,000 for performing 10,000,000 instructions in 1975 on these main computers.

How incredible that 20 years later, in 1995 a computer video game capable of performing 500,000,000 million instructions per second was available for approximately $500! In 1981, IBM launched their first PC for $1,365 to the home market. The home computer market has continued to grow with the introduction of Microsoft's operating system which was known as Windows 3.0 This system used a graphical interfaced which made it easier for the novice to operator a computer.

Microsoft continued to develop many versions, including Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows Vista. The first computer that I owned had Windows 3.1, I use Windows XP at this time.

Home computers or P.C.'s personal Computer have advanced tremendously within 40 years. Today, the rage is the internet which gives the average person access to information of unlimited sources, in addition to the opportunity to create a personal or business website. The internet has impowered many homemakers or entrepreneurs to make money online.
